BLDS created Chat Literacy in July 2011, as an online space for information intermediaries and professionals to meet, share resources, discuss good practice and learn about current approaches in the Information Literacy sector.
Joining requires that you follow the short process required to sign up to the Eldis Community site. Once you are a member: Introduce yourself to the group; tell the group about your work; share details of an event or announcement; or comment on relevant news in our blog.
Users can also contribute news to the section by adding interesting links using Del.ico.us and Twitter. It's quick and easy to do – and instructions are available on the group’s page.
The strategic aims of the group are:
- To identify and contribute to effective strategies for strengthening the IL skills and capacity of knowledge intermediaries (e.g. researchers, policy-officers, NGOs, INGOs, librarians, academics) to access and use research to support social change.
- To provide a platform for knowledge intermediaries and development practitioners to access and share ideas, resources and learning experiences.
- To provide a shared space where IL practitioners can obtain advice and peer support on the issues and challenges they face.
- To share the facilitation of the space with Southern partners on a rotation / satellite basis.
- To provide a shared space where intermediaries and development practitioners can conduct debates on best practise, training methodologies (e.g. student-centred learning) and current thinking in the IL sector.
- To set up a blog for contributors focusing on IL in Africa and Asia.
The group is administered by Emma Greengrass and local experts. It is held on the Eldis Community Site on: http://community.eldis.org/.
